Since 2010 LMU Munich grants stipends for the annual LERU Doctoral Summer School, that brings together doctoral researchers from some of the most renowned research universities in Europe.
The topic of the next LERU Doctoral Summer School is "Approaching climate change: different perspectives and methods". It is hosted by Lund University, Sweden, from June 13 to 18, 2027.
The one-week course focuses on climate change as a scientific and technological challenge and societal, political and cultural transformation process that demands interdisciplinary perspectives, methodological pluralism and critical reflection also on the role of universities and researchers in shaping sustainable futures. It explores how different disciplines approach climate change and sustainability transitions, with particular attention to urban governance, sustainable consumption, degrowth, energy communities, industrial transformation and inner–outer dimensions of sustainability. By combining theoretical reflection, interactive learning formats, games, field visits and panel discussions, the programme creates space for doctoral researchers to critically examine assumptions, methods and normative positions embedded in their own work and creating lasting networks among participants.
The LERU Doctoral Summer School 2027 welcomes participants from all disciplines.
The application deadline is January 12, 2027.
